All the people sat around Nanak. He was no longer
the same person he had been. There was a divine glow on his face. He seemed as
if he was in a trance. The first thing he said was, "There is no Hindu, no
Muslim."
They asked, "Where had you been for the past
three days, Nanak?"
Nanak replied, "I met my Sat Kartar."
"Did you really meet God?" they asked.
Nanak answered, "Yes, I met the immortal Lord,
my Sat Kartar, who is truly glorious and sublime."
"But how could you see God?" questioned
the people.
"A true devotee can see God. God is truth. God
has divine light, "stated Nanak.
Nanak told them that God had commanded him to go out
in the world and teach people.
When Nanak came home, Nanki took him in her arms.
She cried, "Where did you go? We were so worried about you."
Nanak told Nanki about his contact with God and t
orders God had given.
Nanak is said to have gone to the state granary
after this. It is said that he opened the doors of the granary and allowed the
people to take away whatever they wanted.
Few men ran to Daulat Khan to tell his that the people
were looting the state granary. They blamed Nanak for it.
However, when things were checked, they found that
the stock was intact and the accounts were correct.
This time Daulat Khan was very angry at the people
who were again blaming Nanak for something he had not done.
When he asked Nanak to take charge of the granary
again, he refused saying that now he had to fulfill his spiritual duty.
He had started on the path of God, and now he spent
all his time teaching people about God and how to live a morally good life.
Nanak would sit under a tree and preach the word of
God to the people.
