There were many people who were jealous of Nanak
growing fame. They wanted to spoil Nanak's reputation in the courtiers and
Nanak's followers. So they went to Daulat Khan Lodi to complain against Nanak.
They tried to turn Daulat Khan against Nanak by
telling him that he was trying to empty the state granary. If the continues
doing this, your state will have nothing left."
Daulat Khan Lodi gave an order to an accountant to
check of the granary.
Along with the accountant, he sent Jai Ram and the
people who complained against Nanak to the granary. All these people together
checked the accounts because Lodi wanted to give a fair chance to everybody.
When they had checked everything they came and told
Daulat Khan that everything in the granary was in order. Nanak had not cheated
at all.
This was indeed a miracle. God had saved his devotee
by ensuring that the granary was full.
The people who had complained against Nanak were
afraid that now Daulat Khan would punish them.
Daulat Khan was indeed very angry, but he did not
punish them. He let them off with a warning.
He told Nanak that those people had not lessened his
trust in Nanak.
But this incident had a strong effect on Nanak. It
strengthened Nanak's faith in his Sat Kartar.
Nanak, who found reasons to contemplate God in
everything around him (even in an arithmetical number 'tera') was rescued by
God Himself from all possible problems.
