One day, Sheikh Chilli was sitting outside the court, while the master
was busy inside.
A servant came from the house and said that the master's wife wanted
some money from the master to buy flour for the house.
The servant went to the courtroom to get money from his master, but the
gatekeeper would not allow him inside.
The servant pleaded with the gatekeeper, but he would not listen.
The servant said to Sheikh, "If I don't take the money, the
master's wife will beat me."
Sheikh told the servant not to worry. He promised that he would help
him.
Then Sheikh stood at the doorway and looked inside.
He saw his master with a lot of people around him. The gatekeeper would
not let him go inside.
Sheikh then shouted loudly from the gate and everybody there could hear
him.
"Master, there is no money in your house and no flour. Please do
something about it," Sheikh screamed at the top of his voice.
His master came out and shouted angrily, "Sheikh, Don't disturb me
in the courtroom ever after this.
"Yes, master," replied Sheikh meekly.
A few days later, the same servant came running to the court where
Sheikh was sitting.
He shouted, "A fire has broken out at the master's house. Tell him
to come home at once."
Sheikh answered, "You go home and help in dousing the fire. I will
tell the master."
As he got up to tell the master, Sheikh remembered the last incident.
He remembered how angry the master had been. He had told Sheikh not to
disturb him ever again when he was in court.
So Sheikh went and sat outside the court but he did not disturb the
master. When the master came out sometime later, Sheikh told him that his house
was on fire.
By the time the master and Sheikh reached home, most of the house had
already burnt down.
The master was again very angry but Sheikh said, "You asked me not
to disturb you in the court, so I didn't."
The master had no answer.
