WARS

Shah Jahan ruled from 1627 to 1658. But before that he was sent to fight the Rajputs of Mewar under Rana Amar Singh.
So in 1614, Khurram (Shah Jahan was a little that was bestowed on him later) left for Mewar and laid siege to Chaittor, but the Rajputs did not give in.
When the siege was taking very long Khurram took drastic actions. He cut off all supplies of food to the fort of Chrror and even burnt their cops.
The Rajputs were forced to surrender. Khurram returned victorious to Delhi. This made Jahangir very happy with him.
During this time Jahan Ara, teh daughter who would look after Shah Jahan in his aging years, was born.
Nur Jahan wanted Khurram to be the next king because then her niece Mumtaz would be the queen and her influence at the court would remain undiminished.
In 1616, Khurram was sent to the Deccan. The Deccan rulers felt threatened by the strong Mughal army so they asked for peace.
Khurram even defeated the Rajput king of Baglana and Bundelkhand.
He also fought against the King of Bijapur and Golconda.
There was a battle waged to send back the Portuguese who were in Bengal.
When Khurram came back with his army from the Deccan, he was asked to go and tackle Malik Ambar. He accepted the task.
He knew that this mission to the Deccan would not be easy because Malik Ambar was quite strong.
Khurram was greatly inspired by Babumamah' the book on Babur. So like Babur, he said, "I will not drink wine till Malik Ambar is defeated."
All the wine was drained away, and the gold and silver wine glasses were broken and given to the poor.
Then Khurram and his army marched to the Deccan. On reaching his destination, he was, informed that the Mughals were losing.
Everyone told him to wait till the rains were over. But he made his army attack them then and there.
The enemy was shocked by this sudden attack, and it was this unexpected attack that made the Mughals victorious in this battle.
Khurram came back feeling great, but now Nur Jahan's attitude towards him had changed.
Her daughter by her first marriage to Sher Afghan was married to Khurram's yourgest brother, Shahryar.
Now Nur Jahan thought about her daughter first and not her niece. She wanted her own daughter to be the queen.
Her attitude towards Khurram changed as now she did not want him to be the emperor.

She made sure that Jahangir kept Khurram away from Delhi, as she now wanted Shahryar to be the king.
