There
was a war between Greece and Persia. The Greece fought with bravely but got defeated
on account of the betrayal of a priest in the temple of the Greek Goddess. The
court of justice assembled to try the case. The priest pleaded guilty and
prayed for pardon. When the court was deliberating on the issue, an old woman
came to the forum and said, "No time need be wasted for further
consideration of the case. There is no guarantee that he will not betray the
country again. If he is freed, it will be an encouragement to other traitors.
He should be immediately executed. He is my son but I attach more importance to
love of my country than love to my son offspring."
A man's mind may be likened to
a garden, which may be intelligently cultivated or allowed to run wild. If no
useful seeds are put into it, then an abundance of useless weeds will continue
multiplying. Just as the gardener cultivates his garden, keeping it free from
weeds, and growing the flowers and fruits of his choice, so may a man tend the
garden of his mind, weeding out all the useless and impure thoughts, and
cultivating the flowers and fruits of noble and pure thoughts. By pursuing this
process, sooner or later a man discovers that he is the master gardener of his
mind - the controller of his life. In this process it is also revealed to him
how the quality of thoughts shapes his character, circumstances, and destiny.

People are simply going to be

To know things is to be learned.
To know others is to be wise. To know the self is to be enlightened.

If you labor very hard solely with
the aim of helping others, it is very good. Even if you work hard for your own
advancement, it is praiseworthy. But if you exert for your own selfish gain,
you are an unfeeling entity clinging to the earth and sucking full nourishment
for self. If you want to do something for the welfare of others, be like a
fruit which exists only for the good of all. It signals like this: - "Oh
human beings! I have become juicy, ripe and very tasteful for nourishing
others. You also become like me." ========== Kehlil Gibran.
