When Hanuman
came to the court, Ravana angrily asked, "Who are you who had dared to
cause this havoc in my country?"
Hauman said,
"I am Hanuman, Rama's messenger."
"So now
Rama has to take a monkey's help," laughed Ravana in his thunderous voice.
Hanuman said,
"O conceited Ravana, you have committed the biggest crime by kidnapping
the consort of my Lord. If you return Mother Sita honorably, my Lord shall
forgive you. If not, then death and destruction of your clean is
inevitable."
On hearing this, Ravana was made with rage. He ordered his commanders to kill Hanuman at once, but Vibheeshan stopped them from doing so. He said, "Killing a messenger would only bring disgrace to us."

In his court,
Ravana sat on an elevated throne and from his throne he looked down at others.
To teach a lesson to the egoistical Ravana, Hanuman coiled up his tail higher
than Ravana's throne and sat on it. Enraged by the audacity of Hanuman, Ravana
ordered his tail to be set on fire.
HANUMAN
EXTENDED HIS Tail to the extent that the entire stock of oil in Lanka was used
up.
As soon as his
tail caught fire, Hanuman climbed up the palace and set it on fire. Then
jumping from one place to another, he set the entire Lanka, except the Ashok
Vatika, in flames.
To extinguish
the fire on his tail, Hanuman jumped into the ocean. He then went to the Ashok
Vatika to meet Sita. He asked her not to worry, and assured her that Lord Rama
would soon come to rescue her and put an end to the life of the egoistical
Ravana.
Hanuman took
Sita's blessings and flew across the ocean to th place where Jambuvan and Angad
were waiting for him.
